Commando Challenge Training | Week 3
January 24, 2012 in Commando Challenge, Strong - Tough - Resilient
I seem to be getting back into the swing of things this weekend. I’m feeling much better during and after my runs, in fact my energy levels seem to be soaring.
Diet
I’ve taken a good look at my diet since Christmas; something needed to be done. During the marathon training, last year, I lost quite a bit of weight, but quickly put a stone back on since April.
Eating more protein than carbs works for me, but munching on meat and fish all day is not always practical so I’ve back on the protein shakes.
I’ve gone one step further this time too. I can very easily skip lunch, I’ve done it for a long time, but this time I’m determined that my meals are going to be well preportioned and spread out during the day…
I love roasted veg
At the beginning of every week I roast every vegetable we have in the house, leaving me with boxes of onion, pepper, sweet potato, parsnip and the like in my fridge.
This allows me to pic ‘n mix my lunch quickly and easily. I also you the veg in my other meals too, which has cut down on prep times considerably.
I add a little cous cous or pearl barley, also pre-prepared, and some plenty of meat or fish depending on how I’m feeling.
Sweet Tooth
Ordinarily this would be a big problem for me as I love all things sweet. Chocolate is a real staple in our house, but I enjoy cakes equally so.
Cutting out everything sweet would be impossible, I simply don’t have that much self control so while the oven is on roasting vegetable I make some flapjack or these Oat and Cranberry Cookies.
Fat Day
I also reward myself at the weekend, with what I’ve called my “Fat Day”. On this day I can eat what ever I want. Chocolate, crisps, take aways… Anything is fair game.
So far, it seems to be working. I’ve shifted about 3 kilos and already looking a little trimmer and as I said my energy levels are up and the runs are getting easier.
Although, having said that my run times increase somewhat over the next few weeks, so who knows what future posts will be saying…
